- March is based on a largely-unseen character in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, that is, Mr. March. Since the character was based on Alcott’s own father, Bronson, Brooks used his journals and letters as primary sources. Bronson Alcott, an idealist educator, was friends with Ralph Waldo Emerson & Henry David Thoreau.
