I've been a McEwan fan since Atonement and have been meaning to go back to his early shorter works. Read this one a couple of years ago and found the characters & situations remained in my brain for longer than usual. It is one of McEwan's strong early works. He's developed incredibly since.

Re-reading for book group, I see the silly build-ups to the Millenium, a foreshadowing of newspaper declines (circulation & taste), the rise of the pre-emptive press conference, and evolution in judging sexual secrets.

I also saw a 4-man sexual competition for the late Molly's favor, and who walks away winners after each competitor faces an ethical dilemma.
